Our Origin Story

From Chemical Imbalance to Root Cause Healing

Dr. Aruna's journey began where many in the field start: as a traditional psychiatrist operating within the chemical imbalance and psychiatric medication model. Over time, she noticed a troubling pattern: patients were simply not getting better.

Simultaneously, she was struggling with chronic health issues and unsatisfying conventional treatment plans. Then, motherhood sharpened her focus on food and lifestyle. She began to ask a fundamental question: What is the influence of diet and lifestyle on mental illness? Fifteen years ago, mainstream psychiatry had little to say about this subject.

Her search for answers led her to Integrative Medicine, Ayurveda, and Functional Medicine. By applying their principles, she healed her own chronic health conditions. The ease and success of her personal healing inspired her to bring the same results to her patients.

There was no formal path to integrate these holistic ideas into psychiatric practice, and her job with a mainstream institution limited her exploration. In 2016, she quit her institutional job, purely guided by a vision to transform mental health care—shifting the focus from symptom management to root cause resolution, guided by lived experience and patient outcomes.

This personal healing journey, combined with her rigorous training in ayurveda and functional medicine, led her to transition from a "meds first" approach to root-cause removal and ultimately led to the launch of her signature program, Psychiatry 2.0. Interestingly, root cause removal approach removes symptoms at the same time.

The Birth of the DTT™ Framework

Her early focus followed the mantra, "When in doubt, heal the gut." But she soon realized healing the gut alone wasn't enough. Through observing and learning from her patients' while using holistic medicine principles, Dr Aruna observed a consistent pattern with regard to the root causes, across all patients. No matter the presenting symptom or the diagnostic label given to a patient, the core root-cause patterns held true. She saw that the root causes for any patient with any dis-ease could be understood as arising from faulty diet/lifestyle choices, from early life trauma and from environmental toxins. This observation led to the formation of our foundational framework - DTT™ framework to understand the root causes.

The Core Pillars of the DTT™ Framework

Dr Aruna now teaches that there are only 3 root causes for any dis-ease:

1. Diet

2. Trauma and Relationship to self

3. Toxins

Using this framework ensures that the multifactorial causes of a dis-ease are fully addressed.

This framework also birthed our signature program, Psychiatry 2.0 in which patients undergo sequential treatment that systematically addresses diet/lifestyle, trauma and toxicity. This structured and sequential program has helped many people heal from chronic physical and mental illnesses in a short span of time.

The DTT Framework

Across diagnoses, a common pattern emerged: three fundamental root causes affecting recovery. Addressing them—in the right order—produced reliable, often rapid results.

Diet & Lifestyle

“When in doubt, heal the gut first.”

Rebuild the gut–brain axis with nutrient‑dense food, targeted supplements, sleep, movement, and rhythms that restore physiology.

Trauma & Self‑Relationship

Self‑worth, acceptance, and self‑love.

Resolve early‑life and stored stress patterns. Re‑establish a healthy relationship with self to unlock sustained mental wellness.

Toxins & Environment

Remove barriers to healing.

Identify and reduce environmental toxicants; support detox pathways to restore clarity, energy, and resilience.

Why Sequence Matters

Stabilize physiology first.

Gut and lifestyle shifts reduce inflammation and improve neurochemistry—creating readiness for deeper trauma work.

Rebuild the relationship to self.

Trauma healing anchors self‑worth and acceptance, preventing relapse and enabling behavior change.

Detox to remove friction.

Clearing toxicants often unlocks the last 20%—energy, cognition, mood stability.

Delivered in sequence, this framework led many patients to recovery in as little as four months—even after years of symptoms.
